Dams
Dams are engineered structures of particular importance. Before their construction extensive geotechnical investigations need to be performed, while external quality control has to be ensured during construction. During construction, and after a dam has been built, its structural condition and behaviour (i.e. its performance) has to be regularly monitored. ZAG performs the following work:
- precise measurements of the vertical and horizontal displacements of structures, as well as of the relative displacements of any movement permitting structural joints and inclination of dam structures,
- visual inspections of earth and concrete dam structures,
- geological inspections of upstream and downstream natural/artificial river banks in order to determine any instability of these banks,
- measurements of piezometric levels, determination of the intensity and filtration paths of groundwater,
- analyses of measured values using the most up-to-date numerical modelling methods.
